Images

       Images are a great way to allow your user to engage with your users. When thinking about your sites design, One of the most important features of a picture is it’s resolution. The resolution of an image is measured by its width and height in the amount of pixels used to create it. Normally higher the resolution, the more detailed the image is. This also means that the more detailed the image is the large the file size is.  Often times when working with wordpress you will run into the problem of non-uniform images. These are images that have different sizes when using a slider module to scroll through them it will mess up the layout of the site. 

Resolution Comparison 

      High resolution matters if you are planning on hosting very detailed work.  The more detail the picture has, the more the site has to load. If you are planning on using the picture as a small part of the page and don’t need the fine details, it might be worth it to down scale your pictures to a lower resolution. When you compare the same pictures before you zoom in, they look nearly identical. That is because there is an (sometimes) unoticable lose of quality that automatically happens when you rescale a picture. Notice the lose of detail when zooming in on the Dogs face. If it is important to you to host a detailed image, then it would also be worth it to give the image the proper real estate to help highlight the details. 

Video

      Video is another great way to engage your user, but you always run the risk of it being too distracting. Any time you have something moving on the page it will immediately draw the attention of the user. You should keep this in mind when deciding to put a video on your site. Your biggest consideration when wanting to use a video is the issue of loading the video. Often times when the site has to host a video, the site might not have the resources to display it in a timely manner. There is also often times a file size limit that videos can easily exceed. To get around this it’s best to host the video on a popular video hosting site, then embed the video onto the the page.

Audio

      Audio has the ability to set the tone for a site.  Intrusive audio without meaning or prompt can dissuade a user from wanting to use your site. As a rule of thumb, its best not to have auto playing music on your site unless there is a very specific reason for it.
